CSA

Pine Fork Farm offers CSA shares of chemical free produce available at pickup locations in Richmond, VA and Quinton, VA.

2/17/16 Update: We are taking a break from farming in 2016, and will not be offering CSA shares this year.

Interested in joining our CSA? Please read the information below to learn more about what we are offering this season:

What is a CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Members pay for their shares early in the year when farmers need funds to purchase seeds and supplies for the upcoming season. For 20 weeks our CSA customers will pick up a pre-packed basket of fresh produce from the farm or at the farmer’s market. This is a great way to introduce yourself to seasonal eating, while supporting a small local farm.

How much does it cost? How do I register?

The cost of a 2015 CSA share is $400. To register please print out this form and mail it in along with your check or money order. This year we are also offering online payment and registration here, but please note that the online price is $412. We offer a limited number of shares, so register early!

When does it start?

The first pickup this year will be the weekend of May 30th and 31st, and the last pickup will be the weekend of October 10th-11th.

What will be in my box?

In the spring and early summer you might expect some of the following:  salad mix, lettuce, radishes, kale, swiss chard, turnips, snap peas, fresh herbs, squash, and cucumbers. As the weather warms up, expect to see the addition of your summer favorites such as: tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, okra, potatoes, figs, green beans, melons and garlic. Late summer and fall will see a return of cool weather greens, roots, mushrooms, and salads.  Plus more!

While we do raise laying hens on our farm, eggs will not be a part of the CSA, though members will have the option to purchase them at a discount .

How much produce will I get each week?

The cost of your share averages out to $20 a week. Depending on the weather some weeks may have a little less, while other weeks during the peak of the season will have more. We make no guarantee of the the dollar value  or amount of produce you receive during the season, but producing a bounty of quality produce for CSA members is our first priority as farmers.

Here are the contents of two actual shares from past years to help you gauge the volume of produce:

A share in June: 1 bunch of tuscan kale, 1/4 lb of shiitake mushrooms, a bag of salad mix, 1 bunch of parsley, 1 pint of sugar snap peas, 1 lb of summer squash.

A share in August: 2 lbs heirloom tomatoes, 1 lb of blue potatoes, 1 lb of green beans, 1 quart of okra, and 1 bulb of garlic.

Where do I pick up my share?

There are currently three locations for pickup:

  • Saturday at South of the James Farmers Market (8am-noon in Forest Hill Park, RVA)
  • Saturday directly from Pine Fork Farm in Quinton, VA (in New Kent County)
  • Sunday at the Carytown Farmers Market (11am -3pm in Carytown, RVA)

What if I’m going to be out of town and can’t pick up my share?

Don’t worry!  You may swap up to two shares during the CSA season for credit at our market tent or farm as long as you let us know ahead of time.  You can also have a friend or neighbor pick up your box for you instead.
